The Old Star was an 18th century coaching inn, and is now a family run bed and breakfast. With oak beams and log fire in the lounge this characterful, reasonably priced en suite accommodation has uninterrupted views across Wensleydale. The Old Star is the perfect base for walking, cycling or touring in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Grounds include a secluded walled cottage garden where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine, read a book or just enjoy the lovely view.
West Witton is a village of great antiquity and was recorded in the Domesday Book. On one side it is dominated by Pen Hill while to the other a lane winds down to the unspoilt river Ure. The village has a church, shop, and two excellent pubs both of which can be recommended for good food and real ale.
Barbara and Barrie have enjoyed running The Old Star for over 20 years and have brought up their 3 children in the village of West Witton. They are always happy to chat, suggest walks, cycle routes and places to eat and visit.
The Lounge. Log fire, traditional style stone arch fireplace and exposed oak beams makes a cosy retreat in winter.
The Dining Room. A room full of character with oak beams and antique furniture. We serve an excellent English Breakfast using local produce. Vegetarian and other options are always available.
The Bedrooms.We have one twin ensuite room on the ground floor, 2 double ensuite rooms and a non ensuite double upstairs, all having central heating, a washbasin, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, colour TV and shaver sockets. They comply with Visit Britain 3 Star requirements. Five rooms have en-suite bathrooms with WC, shower or bath.
There are three rooms with en-suite facilities including 1 twin, 2 doubles. There is 1 double non en-suite room.
We also offer cottage accommodation through Airbnb.
